Content Warning: The story of Nightcord at 25:00 handles themes of abuse and suicidal ideation. Please use discretion when reading.
After her father fell ill two years prior, Kanade Yoisaki, under the alias K, composes tirelessly, in the hope that one day, her music will be able save someone. She works alongside her fellow circle members; Yuki, the lyricist, Enanan, the illustrator, and Amia, the editor.
One day, while composing, Kanade's monitor flashes, and she's taken to a mysterious empty world, where she meets Hatsune Miku. Miku implores Kanade to "save 'her'". Yuki, real name Mafuyu Asahina, begins to buckle under the pressure of her mother's expectations, as she has been putting on a strong front to remain 'perfect' in her mother's eyes for years. She starts to talk with the other members less and less and withdraws from the group; however, the rest find her hiding away in the empty SEKAI that Kanade had been to once before after being taken there themselves. Mafuyu expresses her desire to disappear, and says that despite finding hope in Kanade's music, that it, nor her own compsitions published under the alias OWN, were ever enough to save her.
After withdrawing from the group for a significant time, she begins publishing multiple concerning songs in quick succession, prompting Enanan, real name Ena Shinonome, and Amia, real name Akiyama Mizuki, to contact Kanade, who has already resolved to get back into contact with Mafuyu. Mizuki and Kanade resolve to meet with Mafuyu in the SEKAI again, with Ena initially choosing to stay behind, but eventually joining the other two in their efforts to save Mafuyu.
The three find Mafuyu in the SEKAI, and confront her about her suicidal ideation, each expressing in their own way that they relate to her struggle to find happiness or meaning and that despite that, there are reasons to stick around anyway. Mafuyu finally breaks down, sobbing that she doesn't want to believe she can be saved anymore, and that she's sick of looking for happiness or meaning in her life that she believes was never there. Kanade promises Mafuyu that regardless of how long it takes, she'll keep composing for Mafuyu until she finds what she's looking for in life.

oh yeah, putting this here just to make my stance clear: don't fucking play gacha games. i know this is rich on a page about gacha game characters but gacha, as a monetization system, is inherently predatory and anti-consumer. the freemium model in general relies on a small part of the userbase blowing hundreds if not thousands on a game of random chance regularly, whether they can afford that or not, and many games entice players who wouldn't otherwise spend on the game with packs that guarantee a rarer resource, whether that be cards or costumes or whatever. it's an entire system founded on exploiting gambling addictions and FOMO and it fuckin sucks. that said, i feel that the story of 25ji can be appreciated outside of the context of the game itself, hence why i felt compelled to make a resource for it divorced from the context of the rest of the game. if you really want to play the rhythm game part of the game without having the gacha elements there, i highly suggest sonolus, an independent rhythm game engine that has servers with both official and fan-made project sekai charts.
